The new Water Calibration rig
Why did we chose to spend thousands on building a flow calibration rig, surely there are many existing facilities.

The Shellsol Calibration rig
The Shellsol rig uses two VAF positive displacement master flowmeters, each has been calibrated by VAF in accordance with Dutch Weights and Measures.  The rig has an extended uncertainty of better than 0.3%.

With a flow range of up to 150 litres per minute, the rig is ideal for calibrating additive and fuel consumption flowmeters.

Many have inadequate straight pipe length or use rough bore pipe.

The new FlowCal calibration rig uses stainless steel pipe and a stainless steel tank. A separate water filtration system has been included to make sure that the water remains clean and free of contaminants.

It’s 3000 litre a minute pump is controlled by a PLC via a variable speed drive allowing fine control of flow rates. 

The rig uses four primary meters, not just one. Each has been calibrated to national standards to give both accuracy and traceability. 

What’s more each primary meter can be cross checked against the others to make sure that there are no unaccounted for errors.
